On January 29 this year Lotte and I traveled to Estonia for the MARKERS Erasmus+ training course about graphic facilitation with no expectations but to learn something new and meet new and interesting people, since we did not know much about the subject. How did it go?
When we arrived in Tallinn in Estonia we met the other participants of the training course at Shokkin Estonia’s office, before we traveled by mini bus to the arena outside of the town where we spent the next seven days.
The first days we went through the basics of graphic facilitation, like ‘The ABC of Simplicity’, templates and ‘The 8 Essentials’. On the third day we started to develop our own visual vocabulary in a small group. Each group had different subjects, started an elimination process to choose words connected to the subject and started to draw icons for the words we had chosen.
During the seven days we learned what graphic facilitation really is about, how to do it and when to use it (basically all the time you usually take notes). Since any of us had not drawn much before the training course, we really learned new skills during the course.
The main goal of the training course was to arrange a workshop about graphic facilitation back at Shokkin Estonia’s office on the seventh day of the training course, which we used day six to prepare for in groups.
Thanks to energizers, group work, cultural night, sauna talks, a birthday party and time to socialize (and play card games) in the breaks and in the evenings, the group got pretty close and we got to check off the expectations about getting to know new and interesting people!
On the seventh day we travelled back to Tallinn. We got some time to explore the town before we started to set up the stations in groups for the workshop the same evening.
Everyone seemed to be both excited and nervous before the workshop, but we think everyone did a great job and that it went really well! We celebrated that it went well with pizza afterwards.
On day eight we reflected on the event and had a presentation about the result, and the same night everyone gathered at a restaurant and had a goodbye dinner.

Participants had the chance to go through a full graphic facilitation journey. From the most basic shapes and principles of visual thinking, to building their own visual vocabulary, creating summary flipcharts to support oral input and even producing a set of practical resources for other youth workers. The programme had also two areas of focus: on one side, how to integrate visual elements while facilitating sessions (internal perspective) and how to summarize information in a structured and logical way from an external perspective (as graphic recorders).
The participants created tangible outcomes of the course were a series of 6 Visual Dictionaries with ready-made visualizations of key terms based on six topics relevant in the youth work/educational field:
In addition to that participants created Mood cards, a set of visual printable cards to support the reflection and/or self-exploration process in various contexts and with various target groups.

The project was implemented by Shokkin Group Estonia together with Shokkin Group Norge and Shokkin Group International funded by Estonian National Agency Noorteagentuur under the Erasmus+ programme of the European Commission.
På kurset Lead it Like You Mean it som vi arrangerte i Branbu i sommer, med 24 ungdomsarbeidere fra hele Europa, jobbet vi med lederrollen og hvordan man kan skape gode læringsaktiviteter for barn og unge i en ikke-formell læringssituasjon. Vi hadde spesielt fokus på det å være gruppeleder på internasjonale utvekslinger, og de oppgavene og utfordringene man da kan møte. Basert på innholdet i kurset har vi laget en manual som nye gruppeledere kan bruke i rollen.
Jeg heter Camilla, og er medlem i Shokkin Group Norge. Det har jeg vært i halvannet år nå. I sommer ble jeg utfordret av Shokkin Group Norge til å bli med å arrangere et internasjonalt prosjekt, Lead it Like You Mean it (kurs i lederskap og fasilitering av læringsaktiviteter), sammen med og for vårt internasjonale nettverk Shokkin Group International. Jeg har selv deltatt på flere prosjekter tidligere, og når jeg hørte at det skulle arrangeres et prosjekt i Norge ble jeg meget interessert.

Mitt navn er Mariell og i sommer deltok jeg på mitt tredje prosjekt med Shokkin Group Norge, «Lead it Like You Mean it». Sammen med andre deltakere fra Norge, Spania, Nederland, Romania, Estland, Polen og Sverige deltok jeg på et kurs for ungdomsarbeidere og fremtidige gruppeledere i vakre omgivelser ved Åstjern i Brandbu. Som lærerstudent var prosjektet veldig faglig relevant for meg, og jeg tar med meg mye god erfaring videre inn i studier og senere inn i læreryrket.
Mariell har mottatt Youthpass som bevis på at hun har deltatt aktivt på kurset «Lead it Like You Mean it».

Mitt navn er Anna Aurora, og i sommer deltok jeg på mitt første kurs gjennom Shokkin Group Norge: Critical Thinking – Information Hygiene. Kurset fant sted i Madaba, en liten by 40 minutter unna Amman, Jordan. Vi var omtrent 30 deltagere fra seks ulike land: Spania, Norge, Ukraina, Libanon, Polen og selveste Jordan.
En ny høst er i anmarsj, og med den nye, spennende prosjekter med Shokkin Group Norge i samarbeid med organisasjoner i flere ulike land i Europa!

Hei! Mitt navn er Pia. Jeg har snart vært medlem i Shokkin i ett år, og mye har skjedd siden den gang! Jeg startet mitt Shokkin-eventyr i Georgia i september 2018, og har siden da bl.a skrevet om ikke-formell læring og folkehøgskolens funksjon. Før sommeren fullførte jeg mitt andre år på folkehøgskolen Bakketun fhs i Verdal. Det ble et utrolig fint og innholdsrikt år, og i rollen jeg hadde som stipendiat fikk jeg både utfordret meg selv og mine medelever (mer kan leses i blogginnlegget). Nå starter jeg snart mine studier i spansk og filosofi på Universidad Nacional de San Martín i Buenos Aires, Argentina, men først skal jeg fortelle litt om, Carpathian Explore, friluftsliv prosjektet i Lviv/Karpatene, Ukraina som jeg nylig deltok i!
Prosjektet Carpathian Explore fant sted i det flotte fjellområdet Karpatene i sørvest Ukraina med deltagere fra hele Europa.
Remember May? That is when we participated in the training course DIGIBOX – Enriching Youth Workers Digital Toolboxes for Involvement hosted by FuturEurope and our international network Shokkin Group International in Trabzon, Turkey!
The project gathered 30 youth workers and leaders from eight countries (Turkey, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Spain, Croatia, Austria and Norway) to learn more about digital tools and opportunities and meet other youth workers to exchange experiences and knowledge. From Norway we sent two participants: Anna and Irfan, that both had a great experience with new and insightful learning.

Jeg deltok på mitt første prosjekt med Shokkin Norge i september 2018, utendørsprosjektet UPDATE i Georgia. Jeg har nylig vært i praksis hos Shokkin Norge, og hadde noen fine dager med Marit, hvor jeg blant annet fikk innsikt i arbeidet bak prosjekter og organisasjonen generelt, samt teori på ulike læringsmetoder, som f.eks ikke-formell læring, og hvordan dette fungerer i praksis. Jeg er nå stipendiat ved Bakketun folkehøgskole i Trøndelag, og har fått tenkt litt på hvilken sammenheng folkehøgskolen har med prinsippet om ikke-formell læring som jeg lærte om gjennom Shokkin Norge.
